Business Finland R&D funding, Sprint and Deep Tech Accelerator
Business Finland is the main public R&D financier in Finland. Sprint is the first grant for a new startup, R&D funding covers larger development and piloting projects as grant or soft loan, and the Deep Tech Accelerator backs research spin-outs. Tempo and Young Innovative Company (NIY) are closed.
Deadlines
Applications are taken continuously. There is no cut-off to plan around; decisions follow the agency's own handling time.
Tempo closed on 3 October 2025 and will not reopen. NIY closed on 10 October 2025 until further notice. A continuous Sprint call opened 1 September 2026. R&D funding is a continuous call. The 2026 Deep Tech Accelerator call closed 16 August 2026; there is one call per year.

Who can apply
Open to companies in Finland. Finnish limited liability companies with a Finnish business ID. Sprint: under 5 years old, fewer than 50 employees, turnover or balance sheet under EUR 10 million. R&D funding: SMEs (fewer than 250 employees, turnover up to EUR 50 million) and midcaps (group turnover up to EUR 300 million). Deep Tech Accelerator: research based startups under 5 years old.
Amount
Sprint grant: up to EUR 100 000, 75% of approved costs. R&D funding: grant of 50% of eligible costs for SME research projects (60% for pure industrial research, 35% for development projects), or loan covering up to 50% (70% in justified cases) of development and piloting costs, 7 or 10 year term with 3 or 5 instalment free years. Deep Tech Accelerator: 3 phases of EUR 400 000 each, 75% of costs, first 2 phases grant and the third a loan.
