Funding for Hardtech Companies

Are you also tired of investors who say they invest in "disruptive technologies", but actually mean they just invest in SaaS and App companies?

Funding for Hardtech Companies

Funding hardtech is a fight

Too often, you are met with VCs who say they love “disruptive tech”, but only mean SaaS and apps. The truth is, very few actually understand hardtech, let alone invest in it.

That’s why we’ve listed the Nordic investors who get it.

Criterias to make the list

  1. Nordic presence through an office or active investment focus
  2. At least one active or past investment defined as hardtech
  3. All investment stages are relevant

How do we define hardtech?

Hardtech means technologies that are innovative, complex, and physical – typically developed in-house by companies building their own products or solutions.

Hardtech doesn’t include pure software plays like SaaS, apps, generic AI frontends, ecommerce, fintech or marketplaces. We also leave out foodtech and life science, unless there’s a core physical or technical innovation involved.

Investor checklist

  • Do they actually invest in hardtech companies, or just say they do?
  • Do they understand the technology field you are working in?
  • Do they understand that your technology will likely take time/capital to commercialize? (i.e. are they in it for the long run?)
  • Do they invest in the current stage you are in? (pre-seed, seed, etc)
  • Can they provide something rather than just dumb-money?

Turn IP into funding

In a recent live session, Ola Wassvik (Lightbringer, Flatfrog) shared how founders can turn IP into a strategic asset. From building a 300+ patent portfolio to founder-first strategies, the message was clear: own it or lose it.
